The World's Most Expensive 'Burgers' (true story...)

Hi all, sorry I didn't post this weekend - it was quite a busy one :)

The snow has finally melted and I'm really glad cos it was getting very old very quick!  Andy and I are going for a run tomorrow night, we're going to drive up to the big industrial estate I work on and run around there as it should be quite empty.  Luckily it's quite well lit!  I decided not to join weight watchers, I'd rather spend my money on going to the gym but I'm still thinking that over too.  Running outside is free though :) The only draw back is the British weather!

I've eaten reasonably healthily....lots of veggies, loads of veggies in fact.  Just unfortunately lots of pizza's and crisps too!  I am trying though (very trying as Andy always says).  Anyway, here is some of the stuff that I've partaken in....

Below are a couple of customised Redwoods Cheezly and Tomato pizza's, I had a real hankering for these!  One night I had one with loads of sweetcorn and red onion and another night I had one with loads of peppers. These pizza's are really good, perfect for when you fancy some vegan junk food.

On Sunday we went to Farmer Fred's which is a big kiddy play type area thing, they have lots of big slides and nets and swings and climbing frames.  They serve typical fast food stuff like burgers/fries etc so I was a bit surprised to see crudites, toasted pitta and homemade hummus on their menu.  Although not as surprised as the people on the counter, I don't think anyone had ordered it before!  For some reason it took 20 mins to make......but when it did turn up it was really tasty and I'm glad I had it.

This was after I'd eaten half!  There were two little pots of hummus......
I went to Holland and Barrett to stock up on my faves which included the pizza's and loads of vitamin c tablets.  I also got these while I was there:

I've had the fish style steaks before and they're always yummy, I really like them.  They're barely fishy which is good as 'fishy' makes me gaggy.  I'd not had the Fry's burgers before and I had I realised they were £3.09 before paying for them I would still be non the wiser!  Seriously, £3.09?!  It reminded me of Brian Potter buying damaged pasties, 'Well they've trebled in price, what's in 'em?  Venison?!'  Anyway....here are the meals I made with them:

On the left are the burgers with oven baked mushrooms stuffed with peppers and sides of broccoli, cucumber and tomato.  The mushrooms were the best bits about this meal, sooooo yum!  Will definitely be buying more of these big ol'  mushrooms in the future.  I was a bit disappointed with the burgers although I think I was expecting them to taste like a sweet slice of heaven after the amount of gold bouillon that was exchanged for them.  They were ok though, just not 'burgery' enough for my liking and they tasted a lot like a stock cube.  I can imagine they would be good at a BBQ though.

On the right is my 'fish' dinner, I had it with roasted med veg, red cabbage, salsa, ketchup and vegan garlic mayo.  Now this was one tasty dinner!!  I can't seem to get enough of red cabbage at the moment, I'm making a lot of vegan coleslaw with it since I found the Tiger Tiger mayo.  I had some with lunch today which also consisted of carrots, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and hummus.

Again, I got carried away and had eaten most of it before I remembered to take a picture!  Hehe, I was very hungry today :)

Couple of social media thingies now...do you use instagram?  If you do please let me know, I love it!!  It's such a good way to see awesome pictures by other vegans (and bunny owners if you're that way inclined). I'm urban_lake on there.  I've also set up a Facebook for the blog too if you fancy liking that.  Or you can follow me on Twitter or email me at urban_lake @ hotmail.com.  There are so many ways to justify an iPhone these days :D  Ooh, Pinterest is good one, that's another great website for checking out recipes and clothes etc.  I keep meaning to mention these things every time I write a post and then only remember once I've published it!  :)

Finally, I saw this picture on facebook the other day and it made me laugh, it's so true!  Have a great week :)

  3. Hey. Mmm, vegan pizza....YUM! Fry's burgers are in my opinion the best vegan burgers you can buy, I LOVE them! I really like most of the Fry's stuff. They are a bit more pricey, but I think they're worth the extra moola. I like running too. Do you have Parkrun where you live? I have started doing it and really enjoy it. :)

    1. Ah I tried the burgers again today and they were better but I think that's because I cooked them for longer, 20 mins rather than 15. Still not sure though! We do have Parkrun here! I keep meaning to get involved but just need to get my arse in gear. I think it's such a good idea and the fact that it's all free is fantastic. Thanks for reminding me hehe! :)
